FAES Insurance Open Enrollment: September 8-22, 2026

Medical/Prescription and Dental Plans for 2026-2027 Plan Year

Effective November 1, 2026

Since 1959 the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES) has supported the professional and educational mission of the National Institutes of Health. This support includes a health insurance program for non-FTE trainees. Over the years FAES has made many changes to ensure a robust and sustainable insurance plan for members.

For the 2026-2027 plan year, FAES will continue to offer the Luminare Health/Aetna Signature Administrators PPO Medical/Prescription plan and the MetLife Dental plan.

Changes for the 2026-2027 plan year are:

Medical

    • In-network out-of-pocket maximum is set to $2,500 for an individual and $5,000 for a family.
    • Out-of-network out-of-pocket maximum is set to $5,000 for an individual and $10,000 for a family.

Dental

    • Annual benefit maximum is set to $2,500.
    • Orthodontia coverage available to dependent child up to age 26.

The 2026-2027 Plan Information:

Open Enrollment is a time when members can make changes to their insurance election. Changes can include switching from individual coverage to family coverage (or vice versa), dropping coverage all together, or enrolling if they previously waived coverage. If members wish to make changes, please contact the FAES Insurance department by email or phone. Changes will take effect with the start of our new plan year on November 1, 2026.

If members are currently enrolled and will not be making any changes for the new plan year, they do not need to fill out any paperwork and current elections will remain the same.

FAES Insurance will host daily (Monday-Friday) Open Enrollment Information Sessions via Teams, September 8-22 at 3pm.
